James Webb, Artist in Residence Video for SPACES

Last week, Cleveland’s contemporary art venue, SPACES released a video we made for them! Back in November we got a chance to film this video interview with James Webb who is completing a residency at SPACES and his project that he worked on, It’s Not What It Looks Like: An audio guide to getting lost.

“The voice and language-with their powers to beguile, persuade and disorientate, as well as their use in reframing objects and situations-are key to the artist's current investigations. Towards these themes, Webb will conduct interviews with Clevelanders and undergo what French philosopher Guy Debord might call dérive-like walking tours. His focused wandering, amusement, and disorientation in Cleveland will progress towards various artworks that could act as associative audio guides to his experience and findings.”

Be sure to watch the full video before!

Gatherers - Infinity & Gloom (Live From Bad Racket)

Check out the new Live From Bad Racket with Gatherers! Gatherers was one of the first bands that we did a Live From Bad Racket with before Black Valve Media even existed. So it was great to get back together with them and go through the process again. We haven’t had as much time to record Live From’s so it’s nice to be sharing this one with everyone.

We Got To See Creed II!

Last Thursday our Black Valve Media team members, Kalim and Evan got a chance to see a special screening of the film, Creed II at the Cinemark at Valley View. They even got a pictures with director, Steven Caple Jr, who’s a Cleveland native himself!

“It was great to see someone from Cleveland direct a successful Hollywood film. It was inspiring to me, as well as Kalim and other filmmakers,” Evan said. “It was also good to know that his first feature, The Land was a film about Cleveland, made in Cleveland.”

The Land was a film directed and written by Caple Jr. back in 2016.

"Each one of those cities as their own identity. Overall, for the tone of the film, we wanted to keep certain identities alive and distinct for each one, but at the same time, we wanted to have this sort of grounded-ness," Caple told WKYC in an interview about the Creed sequel.

The film officially premiers today in theatres.

Our Voices: Democracy Revisited

Test.01_04_50_14.Still001.jpg

We had a great time directing and live switching OUR VOICES: DEMOCRACY RE:visited featuring renowned musician, Terence Blanchard his band the E-Collective, Spirit of the Groove Gospel Choir, CityMusic Cleveland and spoken word artists RA Washington and Orlando Watson.

During the performance of songs from one of our favorite movies of the year, BlacKkKlansman ,we’re performed along with a multimedia presentation and clips from the movie. Terence created the score for the movie and seeing it performed live was a once in a lifetime experience. Overall, it was a powerful experience and we’re very honored to be apart of it.
